The Better Jobs Ontario program helps Ontarians train for in-demand jobs, providing support for those facing challenges in securing stable employment, such as gig workers, youth, and individuals on social assistance. Effective April 29, 2022, the program expanded to assist those who have been unemployed for six months or longer and are part of a low-income household. Eligible applicants can receive skills training for in-demand jobs and financial support for various costs, including:

  • Tuition and books
  • Other instructional costs, including student fees, supplies, and electronic devices
  • Transportation expenses
  • Basic living allowance

Additional funding may be available for childcare, disability-related supports, living away from home, and literacy and basic skills or language training.

Who is Eligible?

You qualify for Better Jobs Ontario if you:

  • Have been laid off and are either unemployed or working a temporary job just to cover costs, or
  • Have not been laid off but have been unemployed for six months or longer and are part of a low-income household.

You can also apply if you receive:

  • Employment Insurance (EI)
  • Ontario Works (OW)
  • Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

A fast-track stream is available for those laid off due to COVID-19, allowing quicker access to training for jobs in high-demand sectors.
