Enhanced Respite Care Services
Key service components include:
Personal Care and Support
Trained Personal Support Workers (PSWs) provide direct, hands-on care so clients continue to receive the same standard of support they rely on every day, even while their primary caregiver is away:
Assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility
Meal preparation and feeding support
Support to maintain daily routines, comfort, and dignity
Continuity of the client's individualized care plan during the caregiver's absence
Safety and Supervision
PSWs provide attentive, consistent oversight so clients remain safe and secure at home, giving caregivers genuine peace of mind while they rest or attend to their own needs:
Ongoing supervision and safety monitoring throughout each visit
Fall prevention and mobility support
Regular wellness checks to catch and respond to changes early
Emergency response awareness and support during evenings, overnights, and weekends
Social and Emotional Support
Respite care is about more than physical care, it's about keeping clients engaged, comfortable, and connected, even when their usual caregiver isn't present:
Companionship and meaningful conversation
Support with social and leisure activities
Reassurance and emotional support during the caregiver's absence
Consistent, familiar care that reduces anxiety around routine changes
Health and Wellness Monitoring
PSWs help maintain continuity of care by keeping a close eye on each client's health and communicating any concerns:
Medication reminders
Observation and reporting of any changes in condition
Coordination and communication with the client's care team and primary caregiver
Support that follows the client's existing, individualized care plan
Offering Cognitive Care and Support
For clients living with cognitive impairments, PSWs follow an authorized plan of care designed specifically to meet their needs:
Support delivered in accordance with an authorized, individualized plan of care for clients dealing with cognitive impairments
Consistent routines and cueing to support orientation, comfort, and reduce confusion
Patient, person-centred approaches tailored to each client's cognitive needs and abilities
Close communication with family caregivers and the care team to monitor changes and adjust support as needed
Together, these services give family caregivers a trusted, reliable break, whether for a planned rest, a medical appointment of their own, or relief from caregiver burnout, while ensuring their loved one continues to receive safe, attentive, and familiar care at home.
