Specialty and Registered Referral Programs

Breastfeeding Support Group

This co-facilitated (Toronto Public Health and Flemingdon Health Centre) program offers support to expecting and new mothers who require support with breastfeeding.

Growing Together

This 8 week referral program provides a small playgroup for children (0-6 years) experiencing issues in their development and children (0-6 years) identified as having special needs. Parents participate in the program with their child (siblings are welcome) under the guidance of the Special Needs Resource Specialist. Children are introduced to circle time, music, art and sensory activities to enhance their language and communication skills. Children play and interact with other children in a stimulating environment, improve their language and social skills.  Referrals and information on other community resources are provided also.

Social Communication

This specialized group is co-facilitated with Yes I Can Nursery School. It is for children 2-5 years old that require extra support communicating with peers and teachers. Program highlights include: communication/ language enhancement support, social/peer play skill development, sensory exploration, and circle/song time.

School Readiness

A five ½ day school readiness program is provided for children starting school in the September.

The program is made up of two components, one for the children and one for the parent/caregiver.

Children learn: separation from parents, to build self-esteem, to improve communication skills, about colours, shapes, numbers, letters & taking turns. The parents participate in workshops on discipline, healthy eating, routines, school expectations and more!

Homework Club & Middle Years

Homework Club runs from early October to June and offers children ages 7-12 from the Thorncliffe and Flemingdon communities and includes:

  • Daily snack
  •  Structured homework time
  •  Early literacy promotion
  • Group activities
  •  And more!

March Break & Summer Recreational programs are provided where children ages 7-12 participate in group activities and sports, build leadership skills and go on excursions to points of interest.         

English Conversation Group

This program is dedicated to helping Newcomers overcome possible language barriers while providing assistance with adapting to a new culture. These FREE classes are held twice a week during the evenings at TNO-The Neighbourhood Organization. The English Conversation Group provides Newcomers with the opportunity to practice the conversation skills required to confidently interact with teachers, community members, employers, service providers, etc. All are welcome to attend. The Children’s Literacy & Enhancement Program is a parallel program for children 18 months and up which helps young children:

  • Get ready for school
  • Make new friends
  • Build confidence
  • Develop early literac

Mental Health Services

We offer supportive counselling for couples, families and individuals. Assistance is provided in dealing with:

  • Relationships
  • Parenting
  • Trauma
  • Grief or loss 
  • Addiction
  • Anger Management
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Separation, divorce, family problems

Violence Against Women Program

Our Violence Against Women Program offers safety planning, crisis intervention, solution-based counselling, transitional housing planning, and advocacy services to women living in the Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon areas who have experienced domestic abuse. There is also a women’s support group which meets regularly to provide women with a safe place to connect with each other in order to share information, raise awareness, regain strength, alleviate isolation, and heal from the oppression of abuse by developing coping and recovery skills. Women can participate in a variety of activities including group discussions.
