On May 20, 2025, The Corner@240 proudly teamed up with Repair Café Toronto to host another successful Fix-it Event — an annual tradition since 2021. This event reflects our ongoing commitment to skill-building, sustainability, and shared responsibility in reducing landfill waste.
The Fix-it Event isn’t just about repairing items — it’s about restoring knowledge, strengthening community connection, and finding purpose. Aligned with our hub’s broader goals, it brings the principles of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to life through hands-on learning and practical action.
A standout highlight from this year’s event: of the 31 items brought in for repair, 27 were successfully fixed — many by recent graduates of our Electronic Repair Workshop. These workshops equip local residents with practical repair skills, empowering them to take ownership of their learning and contribute meaningfully to the community.
One of those graduates, Jason (54), an IT consultant by profession, repaired six items at the event. Reflecting on his experience, he shared, “The Fix-it event was a great learning opportunity. Getting hands-on with repairs really deepened my understanding. The joy on people’s faces when their items were fixed was truly rewarding.”
In the spirit of Herbert Spencer’s words, “The great aim of education is not knowledge but action,” we celebrate these acts of learning through doing. Events like this continue to affirm that by working together, we can create lasting environmental change — one repair at a time.
